Meissen Porcelain Kakiemon and Floral Encrusted Tureen 1735.
A Rare Piece of Meissen in Excellent Condition. Has an Old Antique Dealers Label for Arthur S Vernay, 54st New York inside the lid. Has faint Meissen Cross Swords and what appears to be Drehers Mark to the Base.
The tureen form was originally modelled by Kaendler in 1733 and renewed in 1740. Similarly decorated pieces from a a tea and coffee service in the Munich Residence, and a circular tureen, cover and stand in the Bavarian National Museum, are illustrated by R. Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810 (1966), nos. 657-664.
A service was made in 1735 for Count Johann Christian von Hennicke (circa 1681-1752), one of Augustus III's Cabinet Ministers and Vice-Director of the Meissen factory from 1739. For a plate from this service see Rainer Rückert, Meissener Porzellan, no. 473 p. 113-4 and pl. 116. The plates and dishes in this service were plain shapes, but the tureens were particularly elaborate, anticipating the new taste that created the eccentric services for Count Bruhl two and three years later.

Condition: Minor nibbles to some Flowers, Small firing crack behind goat mask and on the under side of lid rim.
