Meissen Quakers 1750
A pair of Quakers from the Cries of London series (John Kelsey and Rachel of Covent Garden) inspired by engravings after Marcellus Laroon, modelled by Kaendler and Reinicke in about 1750. Apparently quite Rare both have the Cross Swords at the Rear.
John Kelsey known as John the Quaker travelled to Constantinople in order to convert the local population to Christianity. It is said that as he preached in his own language nobody could understand him and so he was put in a mad-house and had to be rescued by the British Ambassador. The 'Cryes of London figures' were modelled by Kändler and Reinecke after prints by Pierce Tempest after Marcellus Laroon
