Worcester Porcelain James Giles Painted Cup & Saucer 1770
Made in around 1770 by the English porcelain factory, Worcester, and was decorated with a formal pattern of blue underglaze flowers and gilt details with the less common entwined handle was applied to a variety of items, such as tureens and baskets. The piece is typical of Worcester wares of this period when the factory replaced its seemingly spontaneous decorations of fruit, birds and flowers with stylised floral patterns and gilded tracery. This change marked a new period for the company when it tried to compete more successfully for the sophisticated London market.
